In a world driven by steam, one man has the knowledge and the means to construct the most powerful machine in existence; one final element is all he needs. That same world is dominated by a patriarchal society and those at the top will do anything to maintain their position of influence. One seemingly unremarkable woman holds the key to the machine, and the potential to unravel the nefarious schemes of those in charge, although she has no concept of the power she holds in her hands. But she will learn.
The Machine will be released on 1st November 2015.
It’s a story with humble beginnings. It was never meant to be a novel worthy of publication. It was never meant to become a trilogy. Similarly, Larissa Markus was never meant to become a kick-ass adventuring warrior woman. She was just a retail clerk with a penchant for daydreaming and romanticising. Yet, both Larissa and The Machine have turned out to be so much more.
It’s funny, sad, intriguing, and exciting. It may not be the greatest piece of literature since Shakespeare, but it’ll keep you hooked. If you’ve never delved into the world of steampunk then this book is a nice introduction to it, it may be a little light on what some people consider ‘steampunk’ but that’s what gives the book its charm. It’s not written to fit an aesthetic, it’s just a bloody good story.
